FolkU Fridays: Learn how to watch movies, listen to music, and get books for free!

March 22: Learn about free digital content available from our library – electronic audiobooks, ebooks, streaming movies and TV shows, there is something for everyone with Matthew James the Community Support Technician with the Vancouver Island Regional Library.

At Folk University neighbours share their interests and passions with neighbours. Support the series with a $50 class-pass for the year or $5 donation per class. Folk U is brought to you by Cortes Literacy with the generous support of Linnaea Education Centre, Cortes Senior Society, CKTZ, DeCoda, and Cortesians like you.

Here’s what’s coming up in the Folk U Friday Lunchtime Series….

March 25 to 29th: Hand Crafting Week. Every day learn to make something beautiful, practical, and/or delicious.  Registration mandatory!!!!!! Limited spots. 1 to 3 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
March 26th: Make delicious and healing fire cide—a basic fermented beverage— with cook and fermenter Kirsten Videluch
March 27th: Make a beautiful piece of coppery jewelry w/ Irene Blueth. Max 8.
March 28th: Learn how to weave and set up your own cardboard loom with postmistress and crafty guru Helene Racine
March 29th: The dyers garden: learn how, what, and when to plant what you need for natural dying with the natural dyer Brigid Weiler.

April 5th: How to tell a joke with musician and master emcee Rick Bockner

April 12th: Learn how to make chocolate by hand with Catriona Vega

April 19th: EASTER BREAK

April 26th: Biodynamic Gardening 101 with Linnaea Master Gardeners

May 3: When Reading & Writing Aren’t Fun When reading and writing aren’t fun with author of Fish Don’t Climb Trees and founder of Positive Dyslexia Sue Hall.
1 to 2:30 Talk about reframing disabilities into gifts.
3 to 4:30 Practical and Hands-on workshop for tutors, teachers, parents & interested others.
